Top Tips When Moving Home
Date: 5th October 2016
Moving house is without a doubt one of the most stressful times in anyones life. A study from 2015 showed that almost two thirds of those surveyed listed moving home as the most stressful part of their lives to date. To cope with this we've compiled a few handy hints and tips that will hopefully reduce the stress on moving day.
Leaving all the packing till the day of the move is a very bad idea. Use the week and days before to slowly pack up seperate rooms a box at a time, so that when the moving day comes, it should only be the essentials you need to pack.
A lot of new movers buy the cheapest boxes they can for moving home. These "economy" boxes are not designed to take items like books or tools. These are usually single walled boxes and we can only recommend using double walled boxes for extra safety, security and piece of mind. Check out our range of boxes here.
Be sure to have a checklist created and checked before and after the move. This allows you to focus on other more important aspects of the move without having to worry about having packed or not packed something. Your removal company will normally provide you with one. See here for an excellent removal company based in Scotland.
Ensure all of your important documents such as birth certificates, passports and letters are all packed together. It may even be worthwhile investing in some specific document storage to ensure all your important documents are kept dry and clean. Alternatively, view our protective packing page here.
5) HANDY ITEMS
Ensure that you have a seperate box that is easy to access. Put all your supplies that you will need access to during the move, such as tea, coffee, snacks, clothes and some toiletries into it. You don't want to be raking through 40 different boxes just to find your toothbrush!
